Short version: the marketing site is cookie-free by default; one optional widget on the sustainability page sets cookies only if you accept it; our blog uses Google Analytics behind a consent banner; and the control panel and webmail use a session cookie to keep you signed in.
By default the website sets no cookies: no analytics, no tag manager, no advertising pixels. Almost every page is entirely cookie-free.
The one exception is the carbon-impact widget on the sustainability page, described below. Because it is optional and stays off until you choose, a short consent bar asks before anything non-essential loads.
Our sustainability page can display a live carbon-impact banner from Ecologi. It is an embedded third-party widget: when loaded it fetches code from widgets.ecologi.com and may set its own cookies, which we do not control.
It does not load automatically. The first time you visit the site a consent bar asks whether to allow it. It loads only if you choose Accept; if you Decline, the widget is never requested and the page shows a placeholder in its place.
Your choice is remembered in your browser’s local storage under a single entry, ih-consent. That entry is strictly necessary to honour your decision, holds only the word “accepted” or “declined”, and is not used to track you. Clearing your browser storage resets the choice and the bar returns.
Our blog at blog.instahost.co.uk uses Google Analytics to see which articles are read. Google Analytics is a third-party service that sets its own cookies.
It does not run until you agree. A consent banner on the blog asks first, and Google Analytics and its cookies load only if you choose Accept; decline, and it is never loaded.
This applies to the blog only. The main instahost.co.uk marketing site stays entirely cookie-free.
Pages load typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. This sets no cookies, but Google receives the IP address of the visiting device in order to serve the files. If you would prefer to avoid that entirely, the fonts can be self-hosted — it is a change we can make.
Signing in at control.instahost.co.uk or webmail.instahost.co.uk sets a session cookie so that you stay signed in as you move between pages. These are strictly necessary — the service cannot work without them — and they do not track you across other websites.
Every major browser lets you view and delete cookies and refuse new ones. Blocking the session cookie will prevent you from signing in to the control panel or webmail; nothing on this website will be affected, because it sets none.
